It’s really fun to have ubuntu installed on your comp and start working on it. Well , To begin with:

Requirements:

1) 256 MB of RAM and 4 GB of Hard disk space . ( But it is preferred to have 10GB space which is Optimum for working comfortably on it and also for having all required softwares installed in it later).      2) ubutnu installation CD ( Either directly obtained from company or the one prepared from ISO file by using k3b or Nero etc.) or bootable USB Pen drive ( Obviously your system must support booting from Pen drive for this )

Ways of Installing ubuntu on your Comp :

Ubuntu can be installed either from within Windows or separately on separate Hard disc partition .Which is preferred depends upon your choice 1)If you have only 1 partition on your hard disc that contains all the hard disc space with Windows installed on it and don’t want to reformat the system….Then it can be installed from within Windows. 2) If you have an additional partition apart from the Windows partition that you are using , then you can use that partition to install ubuntu on it. But make sure that you back up the important data on that partition as it gets completely erased after you install ubuntu onto it. Also note that if you install ubuntu inside Windows , you can uninstall it or remove it completely when ever you need ; similarly if you have installed ubuntu separately , then you can remove Windows also similarly from your comp when ever you want.

Installing ubuntu inside Windows :

1)First insert the ubuntu installation CD with you when Windows is running .Then it asks you the following questions :

Then choose the second option of installing it inside windows.

2)Then it asks you in which drive you want to install ubuntu into and the space which you are willing to allocate for ubuntu. Then select the drive which you want (If C: is only available option , then you have no other choice but to choose that only as your drive to install.) Then it gives you the Size which you want to allocate for it’s installation . It ranges from 4 GB to maximum free space left in that partition.

Choose them according to your wish as shown above and then

Type the user name you want to use during login and the Password for your administrator account in the boxes on the right given accordingly as above shown.   Then Click on the “ install ” on the right bottom part of window as shown .

3) Then ubuntu installation commences automatically and the following windows are seen during the Installation:

Then , after installation is complete the following Window pops up :

You can restart the computer then itself by clicking the Finish button or restart it at some later point of time by Choosing : “ I want to manually reboot later “ option and then clicking “ Finish “.

That’s it : Next time when you restart your comp, It provides you with the options asking you to boot into the OS of your want ; Then Go to into Ubuntu option and enjoy geeking ubuntu Linux   Uninstalling ubuntu from inside Windows :

1)Go to the drive in which you have installed ubuntu ( most probably C:).

Then double click on that last icon that asks you to uninstall ubuntu from Windows completely.

It asks for confirmation and Confirm it , Then ubuntu gets uninstalled completely from your computer.

Alternatively you can modify the boot menu via control_panel > system > advanced > startup_and_recovery and pressing “Edit”. For Windows 98 you have to edit C:\config.sys, and remove the Wubi block.  This concludes the installation n Uninstallation of ubuntu inside Windows.
